About the Journal
Scientific Experiences in Applied Technology (SEAT) is an international, peer-reviewed, open-access journal published by AIS Indonesia in collaboration with the Center of Energy for Society and Industry (CESI), Universitas Muhammadiyah Magelang (UNIMMA), Indonesia. First published in 2027, the journal is issued twice a year, in January and June, in online format. SEAT publishes original research on the design, development, testing, and implementation of solutions in applied science, engineering, and technology. It covers mechanical engineering and machine design, automotive engineering, energy conversion and renewable energy technology, and electrical, control, and instrumentation systems.
The concept of Scientific Experiences refers to documented engineering experience gained when scientific and engineering knowledge is turned into working technology. This includes identifying a technical problem, establishing the engineering rationale, designing and fabricating a prototype or system, testing its performance, and implementing it in a real operating environment. SEAT goes beyond reporting a finished product. It asks authors to explain how and why design decisions were made, how the technology performed under laboratory or field conditions, what technical problems emerged, and what these findings mean for further development. In this way, each design-and-implementation effort is treated as a scholarly experience that produces reusable engineering knowledge.
The journal gives particular attention to technology applied in real settings, such as small and medium enterprises (SMEs), industrial facilities, local production units, and decentralized energy systems. In these settings, engineering solutions must meet practical constraints of cost, scale, available materials, operating conditions, and ease of maintenance. SEAT welcomes studies on appropriate and scale-appropriate technology, prototype development, field validation, advancement of technology readiness level (TRL), and transfer of engineering solutions from the laboratory to practical use.
SEAT encourages manuscripts that clearly connect scientific knowledge with engineering practice. A manuscript should describe the technical problem being addressed and establish the scientific or engineering basis of the proposed solution. It should also explain the design, fabrication, and testing methodology, and report quantitative performance results. Finally, it should critically discuss limitations, uncertainties, and lessons learned. The journal also values transferability: authors are encouraged to identify design principles, performance data, and implementation insights that other researchers and engineers can reproduce, adapt, or build upon in different settings.
By combining scientific rigor, engineering design, experimental evaluation, and real-world implementation, SEAT seeks to strengthen the translation of applied science and technology into reliable, efficient, and sustainable engineering solutions.
